How are the statistics captured?

With robots of course. Kidding... but seriously... it will happen some day. Currently, an assistant coach, parent, sibling, or player uses the mobile app to capture game statistics in real time. We currently have 3 modes to capture stats to make it easy for the user to start simple and learn as they go.

Beginner mode is only 4 buttons and can capture over 25 statistic categories including possession, completed passes, turnover ratios, shot details, goal details, and many more.

In addition to the team statistics produced by beginner mode, advanced mode can capture over 30 statistic categories on individual players including completed passes, key passes, turnovers, recoveries, success % with the ball, and many more.

Is there any training provided?

Of course. We currently have in-app training modules that will help individual become proficient at capturing statistics using the app. We frequently hear from users how surprised they are at how much data we can generate with such an intuitive and easy-to-use system. In some cases where an entire organization is interested in getting trained, we can also provide virtual or live training.

Can we pay someone to capture the statistics for us?

Absolutely. There are a number of teams that have chosen to hire someone they know, usually a sibling of a team member, to get trained and take stats at all of their games. We are not currently supporting a service where we schedule someone to come collect statistics on your games, but we may explore that option in the future.

If we record all of our games, can Ollie provide statistics using our video?

We are not currently providing this service but may opt to do so in the future. Coordinating the submission of the video, video quality, starting lineups, and sub rotations are just some of the challenges. We can however help you train a statistician on your team or in your area who can do this for you! We have had success doing this with a number of teams who are fine waiting for stats as opposed to having them at half time and right after a game. Haven't tried live statistics? Check out some of benefits by reading below.

Does each parent have to capture statistics on their own child?

No. Statistics for the entire team and for each individual player can be captured in real-time by a single person. The interface has been so thoughtfully designed that there are no clunky menus, no selection drop downs that have to be navigated, and no multi selects to sort through as the game is being played. A single person can truly capture all of the statistics listed above for the team and each player while still watching and enjoying the game.

What are the advantages of live vs. video statistics?

Increased Accuracy

The first advantage is that live statistics captured with Ollie are more accurate because they are done by someone who knows your team and who has been selected to do it. The accuracy is greatly increased because the person is familiar with the players and their positions. It is also significantly easier to capture all the details and actions that happen during a game when you are sitting or standing on the sideline.

When you send video off to be analyzed, the video is typically analyzed by someone in a remote location who may or may not be familiar with soccer and who doesn't know your players. They are also trying to track everything through video which could be grainy or just poorly done so they miss pieces of the action. It is also incredibly difficult to track substitutions accurately through video without meticulously documenting subs and submitting them with the video. This can be time consuming.

Available Immediately

The second advantage is that live statistics are available immediately. Looking at statistics from a game recorded 24-72 hours previously is helpful and it allows you to plan for the future, but it doesn't allow you to make any adjustments during the actual game the data is from. Also, even 1 day after a game is played players have typically moved on. The impact of reviewing, celebrating, and rewarding their performance is diminished.

Using Ollie you can monitor playing time in real-time. You can use the statistics at half time to make tactical adjustments to give you an edge in the second half. You can also review the game immediately following the final whistle. This is much more effective while things are still fresh in you and your players minds.

team management

Is team management really free?

Yep. Any team can sign up and use the team management portion of the app for free. This includes the ability to create and manage team events and all of the team chat and communication features. These features include: events calendar, iCal syncing, recurring events, game-only event links, 4 event types, calendar filters for quickly browsing your calendar, event notifications, google maps integration, in-app chat, chat notifications and reactions, managed team chat channels, individual and group chats, directories, and more.

Are there any advantages to an entire club using it?

Definitely. We have various clubs using the app now and offer discounts when an entire club adopts the app for their organization. Clubs also get significantly more value with club features like club directories, club chat channels, and field schedulers. This makes managing your club much easier. It also drastically increasing the feeling of unity and cohesion between directors, coaches, and members of a club.

Do you only do soccer?

For now, yes, but our technology is very easily applied to other sports and we have big plans to expand our offering in the future.

pricing

How does the app pricing work with multiple children playing soccer?

We love soccer families and are working on some family pricing which hope to release sometime this year. Until then, you can sign up for individual accounts or pay as teams to get discounts and access for your whole family.

Does an entire team have to use it and pay for it?

Nope. Individual parents can sign up and use Ollie regardless of whether or not the rest of the team is using it and get tremendous amounts of data to help their child. However, the value is maximized if an entire team uses it so we offer discounted team pricing as well.
